JAKA's involvement in desiccated coconut began back in 1983. When the Group bought a small mill in Candelaria the following year, few suspected that this modest acquisition would later form the backbone of JAKA's desiccated coconut business. Thus, in what is now known as the mecca of the world's desiccated coconut business, Pacific Royal Basic Foods, Inc. (PRBFI) was established.

Boasting a lean, motivated and highly-skilled army of workers and a management widely regarded to be among the industry's finest, PRBFI ships its SUNRIPE brand worldwide, particularly to North America and Western Europe, where distribution is handled by its agents - DesSico International, Inc. for North America and SUNRIPE Europe Ltd. for Europe.

In a crowded industry where numerous backyard operations produce run-of-the-mill products, JAKA sought to capture the proverbial high ground of the business and, in doing so, enjoys a well-deserved reputation for the consistent quality of its products and services - an attribute that demands considerable commitment and resources, that puts it out of the reach of most competitors in the business today.

It comes as no surprise that JAKA supplies the desiccated coconut requirements of many of the world's leading food companies - companies that demand rigid product, plant and systems inspections of their suppliers before approval. JAKA's DCN plants pass these inspections as a matter of routine, and with flying colors.

The JAKA Group intends to leverage this unique expertise into preeminence in the desiccated coconut business. When plans to construct another state-of-the-art plant pushes through, this time near Davao, in the southern Philippines, JAKA's prominent position in the business will be secured well into the next century.
